The Affordable Housing Incentive Program

Since 2021, we have helped over 150 individuals move out of homelessness and into permanent housing.

Low vacancy rates and high rental costs are contributing to an increase in lengths of stay at local shelters serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and subsequently, longer waiting lists of those needing shelter.  Many caught in this bottleneck are ready to move on to permanent housing but are unable to find it.

AHIP builds relationships with landlords to overcome barriers to renting to tenants with Housing Choice Vouchers and other forms of rental assistance and increasing their awareness of the benefits of these program. In addition, AHIP connects landlords to a network of social service providers who match “rent ready” prospective tenants with available rentals and provide housing stability supportive services for the first year of tenancy. This results in less time a rental unit is vacant, opens the door to permanent, supportive housing for households experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and helps ensure tenants maintain housing and do not return to homelessness or housing instability.
